Rehabilitation Program After Joint Replacement (Arthroplasty)
Restore Mobility and Quality of Life Using the Bubnovsky Method
Bubnovsky Center, Riga
A modern comprehensive rehabilitation program after hip, knee, shoulder, and other joint replacements. We use individualized programs, advanced rehabilitation equipment, exoskeleton systems, and biofeedback technologies.
Our goal is not only to restore movement, but to return quality of life and prevent overload of other joints.
Rehabilitation Features at the Bubnovsky Center
Joint replacement solves the problem of a destroyed joint, but does not eliminate the causes that led to surgery.
That is why we use a comprehensive system approach, working simultaneously with:
- the implant
- muscles
- whole-body biomechanics
- movement patterns (motor stereotypes)
We use:
- Bubnovsky kinesitherapy method
- modern biofeedback-based training equipment
- myofascial techniques and lymphatic drainage
- posture and gait correction
- proprioception and muscle balance training
Which Joints We Rehabilitate
- Hip joint — stability, dislocation prevention, gait normalization
- Knee joint — full range of motion recovery, quadriceps strengthening, proprioception
- Shoulder joint — rotator cuff focus, scapulohumeral rhythm restoration, frozen shoulder prevention
- Ankle, elbow, wrist joints and complex multi-joint replacements
Rehabilitation Timeline
Early stage (1–6 weeks):
- swelling reduction
- wound healing
- basic mobility restoration
Middle stage (6–12 weeks):
- muscle strengthening
- biomechanical restoration
Late stage (3–6+ months):
- functional integration
- return to sports and daily activity
Three-Module Rehabilitation Program
Each module lasts 5–7 weeks and follows a structured cycle:
doctor consultation → 6 sessions → control check → 6 sessions → final assessment
Module 1: Decompression and Adaptation
Goal:
- reduce swelling
- normalize lymph flow
- restore initial mobility safely
Methods:
- decompression exercises on anti-gravity machines
- myofascial release and lymphatic drainage
- controlled passive joint mobilization
- neuromuscular activation with biofeedback
Module 2: Biomechanical Restoration
Goal:
- correct muscle imbalance
- restore proprioception
- rebuild proper movement patterns
Methods:
- stabilization exercises on unstable platforms
- gradual activation of key muscles (gluteus medius, rotator cuff, etc.)
- gait and posture correction
- movement analysis and electromyography
Module 3: Functional Integration
Goal:
- restore full mobility
- prepare for daily and sports loads
- create long-term protective movement patterns
Methods:
- simulation of daily movements (stairs, sitting, standing)
- endurance and coordination training
- education on safe use of the new joint
Unique Equipment at Our Center
- Anti-gravity and SMART machines with electronic load control
- Biofeedback systems
- Robotic-assisted joint rehabilitation devices
- Vertical and horizontal exercise bikes
- Balance platforms and VR-based proprioception training systems
Patient Outcomes
- Full range of motion restored in up to 89% of cases
- Significant reduction or elimination of pain in daily life
- Up to 67% reduction in risk of overload of adjacent joints
