What Types of Flatfoot Can Be Treated?
What Is Flatfoot?
Flatfoot is a deformity of the foot in which its natural arches (longitudinal or transverse) flatten, leading to impaired shock absorption and load distribution.
Normally, the foot absorbs impact during walking. With flatfoot, this function shifts to the joints and spine, which over time leads to pain and musculoskeletal disorders.
Main Types of Flatfoot
Longitudinal
Transverse
Combined
Congenital
Static
Without correction, flatfoot progresses and may lead to:
osteoarthritis
varicose veins
back pain
even migraines
👉 Modern kinesiology methods, including the Bubnovsky system, help strengthen foot muscles and stop disease progression.
Types of Flatfoot and Their Features
1. Longitudinal Flatfoot
Causes:
weak muscles and ligaments
prolonged нагрузки (load)
excess weight
Symptoms:
fatigue
swelling
pain in the lower leg
flattening of the arch
Consequences:
osteoarthritis
heel spur
posture disorders
2. Transverse Flatfoot
Causes:
uncomfortable footwear
high heels
age-related changes
hormonal factors
Symptoms:
widened forefoot
bunion (Hallux Valgus)
pain in the front of the foot
Consequences:
hammer toes
Morton’s neuroma
chronic calluses
3. Combined Flatfoot
Combination of longitudinal and transverse types.
Symptoms:
pain throughout the foot
gait disturbance
rapid fatigue
Consequences:
foot deformity
spinal problems
chronic pain
4. Congenital Flatfoot
Symptoms:
flattened arches from childhood
fatigue
abnormal gait
Consequences:
osteoarthritis
delayed motor development
posture problems
5. Static Flatfoot
Causes:
sedentary lifestyle
excess weight
prolonged standing
Symptoms:
swelling
cramps
lower back pain
Consequences:
varicose veins
back pain
joint wear
